Adsorbent Resin

Tulsion® polymeric adsorbents can be used in columns with repeated exhaustion and regeneration cycles in both up-flow and down-flow operations. They have specifically designed pore size, surface area and particle size, and qualify the stringent limits of free salts and metals.

Tulsion® speciality adsorbents are of two types:

Polystyrene-based – These adsorbents are used to adsorb hydrophobic (non-polar) solutes from polar solvents. Selectivity and extent of adsorption of a solute increase as hydrophobicity of the solute increases.

Poly-acrylate-based – These adsorbents are preferably used to adsorb non-polar solutes from aqueous systems and polar solutes from non-polar solvents. Depending on the nature of moieties adsorbed, they can be very easily regenerated by using methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, steam, aqueous sodium hydroxide of a particular concentration.

Applications:
  • Juice de bittering – Adsorbent resins are used for removing bitter tasting components to improve the flavour of the juice.
  • Fermentation broth – Adsorption of active components on Tulsion® resin and elute by solvent (like MeOH, acetone, ethanol).
  • Sugar decolourisation – Removal of organic dark colour from raw sugar syrup to improve the ICUMSA value of sugar crystals.
  • Adsorption of phenol and substituted phenol from aqueous and non-aqueous streams on Tulsion® resin, with higher adsorption capacity.
  • Adsorption of chlorinated solvents like EDC, CCl4 on Tulsion® resin.
  • Organic removals from aqueous chemical streams in process.
  • Removal of polyphenols from aloe vera juice.
  • Decolourisation of organic streams and kraft pulp mill effluents.
  • Chlorinated pesticide waste treatment.
  • Surfactant removal.
